An important step in life sciences' process automation is the control of the automated workflow. This includes at least to have an "umbrella" across all ressources (process analytical systems, liquid handlers, sample prep instruments, storage resources ...) to use a priority sensitive dynamic scheduler for all process activities and to organize all transport steps as well as operating procedures. The thesis of Dr. Gu shows a working approach for a hierarchical workflow management, able to integrate dynamic scheduling methods and different philosophies of process control.
